Did you know people with disabilities have rights?

If You Have a Disability, You Have a Right To . . .

  • services that best fit your needs.
  • a written plan that is designed to help you meet your own personal goals.
  • know how the services are supposed to help.
  • know why certain services are chosen over others.
  • receive services in ways that provide the most freedom possible.
  • say no to services unless:
    • a court has taken that right away from you, or
    • you are a minor under the age of 18, or
    • in an emergency when you or someone else is in danger.
  • be free from restraint or seclusion except in an emergency.
  • have all information about your services kept private.
  • be informed of your rights in a way that you can understand.
  • exercise your rights without fear of punishment, or denial of services.
  • choose to live in the community rather than an institution, if appropriate.
  • call the Disability Rights Center or any other rights protection agency.

If you feel you have been mistreated, or have had your rights violated, you may contact the Disability Rights Center.

The Disability Rights Center is the Arkansas Protection and Advocacy System for people with disabilities.
